More experiences

The phone I borrowed is flawed! For instance I can not access Android Market… (i.e. I can access it, and download ONE app after returning the phone to factory settings).

This means that I’m not having the progress I had hoped! But at least I have tried fiddling more with the phone’s OS than I would ever have expected to do!

I downloaded Angry Birds, since it is so famous that even a non smartphone owner like me had heard about it. My phone is too slow to run it, så it wasn’t as great an experience as I had hoped.  I like the interaction – it is incredibly simple! You don’t even need any introduction everything is just intuitive.

At another attempt with Android Market, I downloaded EverNote. A great little app which can be used on both your smart phone, your desktop computer and probably anything else as well. You can even connect it to your twitter account!
This app is brilliant in the fact that the developers actually remembered, they were developing for different platforms. Which means that EverNote does NOT look the same on my smartphone and on my desktop computer. The functionality is more or less the same though.

Unfortunately I do not have EverNote at the moment, since I once again returned my phone to factory settings in order to explore other apps. This time I ended up with a Recipes app which is really bad. There is too much functionality crammed into too little place. It is not at all intuitive and when I use it, I don’t get what I expected.

Yesterday I was given a Motorola Xoom tablet (well, I’m borrowing it).  I ended up using all of the battery in one day, and did not have a charger… Now I have! Next blog post will be written from the Xoom :-)

Btw. the next litterature I will read is:

First experiences

I’ve had my very first experiences with android!

So far I really enjoy it – it’s definitely an upgrade from my old phone! Only problem is – it’s really hard to hit the k-key… maybe the phone is bad? Or maybe I just need some training?

I’ve been looking at several homepages that describe emerging trends with mobile apps. For instance  http://mashable.com/2011/01/26/mobile-app-design-trends/ . I’m looking forward to the time, where I myself is able to identify trends! Right now everything is just so new…

Project description

Hopefully I will start a 4 week internship at Miracle/Geekhouse Aarhus this friday. We just need to sign the papers…

During these four weeks I will explore the Do’s and Don’t’s in graphical User Interface Design for mobile devices (smart phones, tablets, etc.). This blog will be my documentation.

I will use the blog to write about my experiences with different devices and their different use situations. I will describe different kinds of interaction method and why they work/don’t work. I will also suggest improvements. And if possible, during this short amount of time, I will explore my suggested improvements and find out if they actually work.

I will post links to some of the litterature I use, and I will welcome any comment, especially if you share some of your experiences.

I hope you will enjoy my project blog
